Pope Francis Will Visit this Italian City in July 2024

Pope Francis will visit the Italian city of Trieste on July 7, 2024, to close the 50th Social Week of Catholics in Italy.

Pope Francis will visit the Italian city of Trieste on July 7, 2024, to close the 50th Social Week of Catholics in Italy.

At the end of the work of the Permanent Commission of the Italian Bishops on January 24, Bishop Giuseppe Baturi, Secretary General of the Italian Episcopal Conference, reported on the Holy Father’s upcoming visit to the capital of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region.

As reported by Vatican News, Bishop Baturi indicated that “the Holy Father will be with us on Sunday, July 7, to bring a message to the participants of the event in Trieste and to celebrate Mass.”

This port city, located in Northwest Italy, will host from July 3 to the 7th, the “Social Week of Catholics in Italy,” promoted by the Italian Conference to “deepen and relaunch the Christian social message and guide the action of believers in the various categories of the world of work.”

The event, presented in September 2022, will be held under the motto “At the heart of democracy, participating in history and the future.” One thousand five hundred delegates, elected by dioceses and associations, will be in charge of launching this initiative.

The Archbishop of Catania and president of the organizing committee of the event, Mons. Luigi Renna also highlighted the “multiethnic” character of the city that the Holy Father will visit, where “participation in democratic life will be discussed on the 75th anniversary of the Italian Constitution.”

For his part, the Bishop of Trieste, Bishop Enrico Trievisi, invited the faithful to prepare “with prayer in order to embrace it and to make it a moment in which we strengthen our participation in building our ecclesial and civil community.”

“We are on the periphery of Italy, that is, on the border that leads us to encounter other peoples and cultures. It is an invitation to be willing to communicate and witness the evangelical message of peace and justice that the Pope spreads on every occasion,” the prelate remarked.

It should be noted that the Vatican has not officially confirmed the trip, and the Press Office of the Holy See has not yet provided more information about it.
