Pope Francis to Receive Argentine President in Audience

The President of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, will be received at the Vatican by Pope Francis in a formal audience on the occasion of the end of his presidential term. This was announced by the official spokesperson of the Presidency, Gabriela Cerruti, through her X account, detailing that the meeting will take place during the last week of November in the Apostolic Palace of the Vatican. Elected president in October 2019, Alberto Fernández’s term concludes on December 10, when the recently elected Javier Milei will assume the presidency.

This will be Fernández’s third meeting with the Pontiff during his presidency, having previously met with the Holy Father in 2020 and 2021. According to Infobae, the trip was agreed upon a month ago through the efforts of the Secretary of Worship, Guillermo Oliveri, and the Argentine ambassador to the Vatican, Fernanda Silva. The president is expected to attend with a very small delegation.

According to government sources, confirmation from Pope Francis arrived in Buenos Aires in the last few hours. The Holy See will confirm the information when it announces the scheduled audiences for the coming week.
