The Return of Saint Pius X to Veneto: the Pilgrimage of His Remains, October 6-22

For the 120th anniversary of his papal election, the Dioceses of Treviso, Padua, and Venice welcome Saint Pius X’s remains.

An official press release from the Patriarchate of Venice gave the news, already anticipated in ACI Stampa. For Treviso, Riese, and Padua, the arrival of Pius X’s relics represents a historic “first visit.” At the same time, for Venice, it is a return after the passage experienced in 1959 and which, in fact, confirmed the promise made by the then Patriarch Sarto on his departure from the lagoon city to reach the conclave: “Alive or dead, I will return to Venice.”

The pilgrimage of Saint Pius X to the principal places of his formation and the exercise of his presbyteral and episcopal ministry “will be the opportunity to rediscover the gift of holiness offered, by Giuseppe Sarto, to the universal Church and in particular to the Churches of these territories.” “At the same time, it will give the opportunity to reread and underline the modernity, contemporaneity, and complexity of this great ecclesiastical and historical figure, one of the greatest and most profound reformers in the history of the Catholic Church,” we read in the press release.

The pilgrimage of Saint Pius X in the Veneto region will take place according to this calendar (the detailed program and useful information for each Diocese are in the links indicated below):

– from October 6 to 15 in the Diocese of Treviso
