The Vatican is continuing its diplomatic efforts regarding both the war in Ukraine and the Church in China. Cardinal Matteo Zuppi is continuing his outreach to Russia and Ukraine and now he is set to travel to Beijing in September. Following visits to Kiev, Moscow and Washington, a new chapter in this mission is poised to unfold, with Beijing as the next destination. Pope Francis personally confirmed this development on August 4th in an exclusive interview with Vida Nueva Magazine. Shifting focus to the near future, Pope Francis’ voyage to Mongolia is poised to make its own contribution to peace. According to the head of the World Union of the Old Believers, Leonid Sevastyanov, the Pope has expressed his interest in a meeting with Patriarch Kirill during a layover at Moscow’s airport.
