Pope Francis Invites Survivors to Share Their Experience on Clergy Sex Abuse

Pope Francis urges journalists to promote truth and cooperation in addressing Church sex abuse scandals

Pope Francis has urged journalists to continue their work with “openness and integrity in the service of truth” in regards to the ongoing Church sex abuse scandals. The Pope made this call at a recent meeting in Rome which brought together journalists, survivors, and experts to discuss the issue of abuse and promote effective cooperation within the Church.

International Safeguarding Consultant, Tina Campbell, who was present at the meeting, highlighted the importance of the Pope’s support in addressing this significant issue. She stressed that the involvement of journalists, survivors, and experts is crucial in shedding light on abuse and fostering more effective cooperation within the Church.

Father Hans Zollner, who recently left the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors, was also present at the conference. Campbell commented on his attendance and discussed the concrete steps that can be taken to address the Church’s sex abuse scandals.

The Pope’s call for openness and integrity in journalism is a reminder of the crucial role that media plays in holding institutions accountable.
