Statement from Michael P. Warsaw, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of EWTN Global Catholic Network on the death of His Holiness, Pope Francis.

Following the news of Pope Francis’ passing, EWTN Global Catholic Network President and CEO Michael P. Warsaw released a statement expressing his personal condolences and those of the EWTN family, assuring them of prayers and special programming to honor the pontiff.

EWTN’s Condolences for the Passing of the Holy Father
 

“The death of Pope Francis is a moment of personal grief for Catholics around the world. Together with our entire EWTN Family, I mourn his passing and join the Church in prayers for the repose of his soul,” said Michael P. Warsaw.

The CEO fondly recalled his personal encounters with the Pontiff over the years: “I was privileged to be able to meet Pope Francis a number of times throughout the years and was always struck by his kindness and good humor in our encounters.”

“As Catholics,” Warsaw continued, “we thank God for the life and pontificate of Pope Francis, and in particular for his tireless advocacy for those on the peripheries.”

The memory of the Holy Father is accompanied by a shared gratitude for his witness and his teaching, which have left a profound mark on the contemporary Church.

In the spirit of its mission of service to the Church, EWTN has announced special programming to accompany the faithful in this time of mourning.

“As part of our service to the Church in this moment, EWTN will air programming to honor Pope Francis’s life and legacy as well as coverage of the many devotions and Masses from the Vatican, including the Holy Father’s funeral Mass,” the CEO said.

The entire network invites viewers around the world to join together in this time of prayer and remembrance.

The statement concludes with a prayer: “May God have mercy on His servant and grant him eternal rest.”
