Holy Mass in Memory of Mother Angelica Celebrated at St. Peter’s Basilica

Join us on March 27, 2026, for a Holy Mass in memory of Mother Angelica, foundress of the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN), on the 10th anniversary of her passing. The Mass will be celebrated live from the Choir Chapel of St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.

The Eucharistic celebration is presided over by Father Michael Baggott, bringing together EWTN employees and faithful in prayer and remembrance of a woman whose vision and faith transformed Catholic media in the modern age.

A Life Marked by Faith and Providence

Born in 1923 in Canton, Ohio, Mother Angelica’s early life was shaped by hardship. Growing up in poverty and facing serious illness, she developed a deep reliance on God that would define her vocation.

She later entered the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration, where her strong personality and entrepreneurial spirit quickly became evident. Rooted in prayer and sustained by a profound trust in Divine Providence, she began to envision new ways of bringing the Gospel to a wider audience.

The Founding of EWTN

In 1981, with limited financial resources but remarkable courage, Mother Angelica founded EWTN. What began as a small television operation would grow into one of the largest religious media networks in the world.

Through her direct and engaging style, she connected with viewers in a personal and accessible way, making the teachings of the Catholic Church available to millions of households across the globe. Her programming combined clarity, conviction, and authenticity—qualities that became the hallmark of the network she built.

A Lasting Legacy in the Church

Mother Angelica passed away in 2016, leaving behind a spiritual and media legacy that continues to shape the Church’s evangelizing mission today.

The Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica stands as a tribute not only to her life, but to the enduring impact of her work. Through EWTN, her mission of proclaiming the Gospel remains alive, reaching new generations and continuing to inspire faith around the world.

As EWTN gathers in prayer in the heart of the Vatican, Mother Angelica is remembered as a woman of bold faith—one who trusted God completely and, in doing so, helped bring the message of Christ to the global stage.
