In a significant announcement during today’s Angelus, Pope Francis revealed that a consistory will be held on September 30 to creat new cardinals. The consistory will include the creation of eighteen cardinals with voting rights and three without.

Among the chosen cardinals are distinguished individuals who have made significant contributions to the Church. They are as follows:

  1. H.E. Monsignor Robert Francis Prevost, O.S.A., Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops.
  2. H.E. Monsignor Claudio Gugerotti, Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches.
  3. H.E. Monsignor Víctor Manuel Fernández, Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
  4. H.E. Monsignor Emil Paul Tscherrig, Apostolic Nuncio.
  5. H.E. Monsignor Christophe Louis Yves Georges Pierre, Apostolic Nuncio.
  6. H.E. Monsignor Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem.
  7. H.E. Monsignor Stephen Brislin, Archbishop of Cape Town (Kaapstad).
  8. H.E. Monsignor Ángel Sixto Rossi, S.J., Archbishop of Córdoba.
  9. H.E. Monsignor Luis José Rueda Aparicio, Archbishop of Bogotá.
  10. H.E. Monsignor Grzegorz Ryś, Archbishop of Łódź.
  11. H.E. Monsignor Stephen Ameyu Martin Mulla, Archbishop of Juba.
  12. H.E. Monsignor José Cobo Cano, Archbishop of Madrid.
  13. H.E. Monsignor Protase Rugambwa, Coadjutor Archbishop of Tabora.
  14. H.E. Monsignor Sebastian Francis, Bishop of Penang.
  15. H.E. Monsignor Stephen Chow Sau-Yan, S.J., Bishop of Hong Kong.
  16. H.E. Monsignor François-Xavier Bustillo, O.F.M. Conv., Bishop of Ajaccio.
  17. H.E. Monsignor Américo Manuel Alves Aguiar, Auxiliary Bishop of Lisbon.
  18. Rev. Father Ángel Fernández Artime, S.D.B., Rector Major of the Salesians.

 

In addition to these appointments, the Pope will also include two archbishops and a religious figure who have demonstrated exceptional service to the Church:

  1. H.E. Monsignor Agostino Marchetto, Apostolic Nuncio.
  2. H.E. Monsignor Diego Rafael Padrón Sánchez, Emeritus Archbishop of Cumaná.
  3. Rev. Father Luis Pascual Dri, O.F.M. Cap., Confessor at the Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii in Buenos Aires.

 

This significant development highlights Pope Francis’s commitment to further strengthening the College of Cardinals and promoting diverse voices within the Church.
