Relevance and Listening: The Key to Communicating the Christian Message Today

In today’s fast-paced and information-rich world, the Church faces the challenge of staying relevant and reaching out to a diverse and ever-changing audience. To reflect on this important issue, 300 Church communicators from around the world gathered in Rome for a three-day seminar hosted by the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross.

The seminar focused on the theme of “Relevance and Listening: communicating the Christian message in the plurality of contemporary voices,” and featured about 50 speakers, including academics, consultants, directors of bishops’ conferences, and journalists. Through various sessions and discussions, participants explored the importance of listening and interpreting what people write and say, especially in the context of social media and the upcoming Synod.

In this video, we hear from Jim Macnamara, Professor at the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia, who explains the significance of the seminar’s theme and how organizations can better apply communication resources to better listen to their members. Ultimately, communication is a two-way exchange, where “talking” and “listening” are equally important.

Join us as we delve into the vital topic of relevance and listening, and how it can help the Church better communicate its message in today’s society.
