How to better include laypeople in the life of the Catholic Church?

The Vatican is set to host a conference-themed “Pastors and Lay Faithful Called to Walk Together” from February 16th to the 18th. The conference, organized by the Vatican’s Dicastery for Laity, Family, and Life, will bring delegates worldwide to discuss ways to improve relations and communication among lay people, priests, and bishops.

With the question of how to better include lay people in the life of the Church at the center of the conference, attendees will discuss the responsibilities of lay people in the Church and the formation of the lay faithful. The conference focuses on the ongoing worldwide Synodal Process, and delegates can share practical experiences.

A total of 210 people will attend the conference, including 107 laypeople and 74 bishops’ conferences. The event will occur in the Synod’s Hall, and Pope Francis will attend the final session.

EWTN Vatican Bureau Chief Andreas Thonhauser notes that the conference marks a significant effort to strengthen the relationships and communication between lay people, priests, and bishops. It also underscores the importance of including lay people in the life of the Church, recognizing their contributions and responsibilities.

The Vatican has long recognized the vital role of lay people in the Church and has taken steps to ensure their voices are heard. With the conference, the Vatican is demonstrating its commitment to furthering this goal, promoting a greater sense of community and shared responsibility among all members of the Church.

The conference promises to be an important and insightful event, with attendees discussing essential issues and sharing their practical experiences. With the participation of Pope Francis, it is sure to be a momentous occasion for all those involved.
