Understanding the Holy See’s Role at the United Nations

In this video, Fr. Roger Landry, who served as Attaché to the Holy See’s Permanent Observer Mission to the United Nations in New York from 2015 to 2022, explains the Holy See’s unique role at the United Nations. The Holy See Mission is focused on sharing centuries of Catholic Church’s experiences and placing this knowledge at the disposal of the United Nations to assist in achieving peace and justice.

Father Landry discusses how the Holy See represents not just a religion but a state, bringing to the UN 2000 years of Catholic social doctrine and the lived experiences of Catholics worldwide. He also explains how the Holy See contributes to the dialogue at the United Nations to help the world transcend national interest to achieve the international common good.
