George Pell, Archbishop Emeritus of Sydney and Prefect Emeritus of the Secretariat for the Economy of the Holy See and Vatican City State.
In Pope Francis’ telegram sent to the Dean of the College of Cardinals, Card. Giovanni Battista Re, Cardinal Pell is remembered as “a faithful servant to the Lord” who followed him “without wavering” even “in the hour of trial.”
“He received the prize of eternal peace,” this is the Pope’s wish and blessing. Cardinal Pell passed away yesterday in Rome following heart complications that arose after surgery. “It was an operation, planned for some time, to replace a hip prosthesis,” Vatican News also reports.
