Pope Francis to lead Lenten initiative “24 hours for the Lord”

The Vatican confirmed on Tuesday that the Lenten initiative “24 hours for the Lord”, promoted by Pope Francis, will take place from Friday, March 17 to Saturday, March 18.

The Pope will preside over this tenth edition on March 17 at 4:30 PM (local time) at the parish of Santa Maria delle Grazie al Trionfale in Rome, Italy, instead of at St. Peter’s Basilica.

The Holy Father will begin the day with the traditional penitential liturgy, and it is expected that he will subsequently initiate the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

From the Vatican, the proposal is renewed to dioceses and parishes, in Italy and around the world, to celebrate the moment of prayer also in their own communities.

During this time, all faithful who wish may receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and it is encouraged that at least one parish in each diocese in the world remain open for 24 hours to facilitate prayer and confession.

“24 hours for the Lord” is carried out as preparation for Easter, offering faithful and pilgrims the possibility to stop at any time in adoration and the opportunity to confess.
