The Link between the Annunciation and Good Friday

Ahead of Holy Week, the Church makes the Solemnity of the Annunciation—commemorating Mary’s “yes” and the moment of the Incarnation, where faith and reason converge and salvation history takes a decisive turn.

That same mystery is reflected each Sunday with Pope Leo during the Angelus, linking St. Peter’s Square with Nazareth and recalling the event that continues to shape Catholic life and devotion.

In art, the Annunciation finds expression in the work of Fra Angelico, whose frescoes in Florence and Rome translate theology into image, using beauty to invite contemplation of the Gospel.

Marian devotion also endures through movements such as the Militia of the Immaculata, inspired by St. Maximilian Kolbe and lived today through a spirituality of consecration, sacrifice, and mission.

In parallel, news from the Vatican highlights on the ethical responsibilities of journalists in wartime, renewed efforts in Church safeguarding, ongoing legal proceedings within the Vatican, and preparations for the Pope’s first apostolic journey to Africa.
