Providing Aid and Comfort: Pope Francis’ Representatives on the Ground in Turkey and Syria

Pope Francis has repeatedly offered words of comfort to the Turkish and Syrian people following the devastating earthquake that hit southern Turkey and northern Syria on February 6th. As rescue operations give way to long-term recovery, Papal representatives have been on the ground in both countries, providing aid and comfort to the victims.

Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti, the new prefect of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches, traveled to Syria and Turkey from February 17-21 to express the Holy Father’s closeness to the people severely affected by the recent disastrous earthquake. In this video, we highlight the efforts of the Papal representatives and their message of solidarity with those suffering in the war-torn and earthquake-struck Syria. Join Pope Francis in being spiritually and materially close to earthquake victims in Syria and Turkey this Lent.
